While a sermon is certainly a monologue, storytelling principles can still be used in preaching the message. We have found that the context prior to the story has helped our congregation to understand how the Bible fits together. We have been able to connect stories in a sermon series to show the character of God through His actions. The Bible text itself becomes the illustration and the story gives a framework for the Biblical truth. It is easier to preach and easier for the people to remember. The story travels better than a filled in sermon outline.
